For over thirty-five years, Desiree Gordy has been Kerry Gordy’s partner and his Head of Business Affairs. She has legally overseen every deal that he has ever done. She has literally walked Mr. Gordy through the simplest of Production and Publishing Deals to the recently sophisticated and complicated 8 figure Copyright Termination and Recapture Deals. In 1993, Mr. Gordy signed Desiree to a lifelong contract. She and Mr. Gordy have a bond that will last forever. Desiree met her high school sweetheart Terry Gordy, (Kerry’s older brother) at Beverly Hills High School. Being from a very highly educated family, she always knew what she wanted and that was to be an entertainment lawyer that worked for the top minority owned firm in America, Motown!

After she graduated law school, she began her career at Motown Record Corporation in 1983 as in-house counsel. During this period, she coordinated projects involving some of her favorite artists, including, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, DeBarge, Smokey Robinson, and Rick James. She also negotiated recording, publishing and producer agreements. She licensed the works from the voluminous catalogue for television shows, commercials and feature films.

In 1990, she joined forces with Ice Cube and Pat Charbonnet and served as in-house counsel for record labels distributed through Atlantic Recording Corporation. She negotiated the Platinum selling soundtrack album for the Ice Cube movie “Friday”. From 1992 to the present, Desiree has been a sole practitioner. Mr. Gordy loved her work ethic and demeanor. This is when they became inseparable. During this span she also represented multi-platinum artists and executives on Warner Brothers Records, Priority Records, Def Jam Recordings, La Face Records, MCA Records, Ruthless Records, Universal Records and Hidden Beach/Epic/Sony Records. Desiree has also been the lead attorney on numerous soundtrack albums and movies.

Desiree is a member of the Black Women’s Lawyer Association and volunteers with The Power to End Stroke campaign, a division of the American Heart Association.
